Aven turned 3 on Saturday, Feb. 20. She was very excited for her birthday. Ben and I spent part of the morning alone with her because the other kids were busy with activities. She had some birthday money from Nana so we took her to Toys 'R Us to let her choose something to buy with that. She took her time looking but finally decided on a My Little Pony Ferris wheel and a Princess umbrella. They were good choices for her. She spent a lot of time enjoying them for the rest of the day and the next day... and today, actually.
We invited some of our good friends over to celebrate her birthday with us that evening. The Vetter, Pilz, Croley, and Ketten families joined us to watch Aven open presents. We also ate pink and purple princess cake and ice cream. She really enjoyed being the center of attention. Grandma and Grandpa gave her the Tinkerbell costume she is wearing in the picture and she was so excited she stripped in front of her party guests to change into her Tinkerbell costume. Our friends were nice to come spend the evening with us and help Aven feel special. A party was important to her but I didn't want to be in charge of a bunch of two and three year old cuties by myself so having families over was a perfect solution.
I admit I have been dreading Aven turning 3 just a little bit. I remember this age being difficult with Zoa. Aven is still clinging stubbornly to her diaper but hopefully we can convince her that the toilet is a good thing now that she is 3 and wants to be a big girl. Once we conquer that, things will be looking up. She is a burst of sunshine in our family.
